axle on 8.2 posi rear needs replaced

i have a 72 gto that needs a new axle its an 355 posi rear end . its an 8.2 . i am having trouble finding one that fits. are any interchangable and where can i find one?

Chevrolet, Buick, Olds, or Pontiac 8.2? They were used somewhat interchangeably in 72. If the axle bearing presses on the shaft and retained by 4 bolts, you will have to find a used axle or have one custom made at Moser or Dutchman.

Might search at www.car-part.com , but watch out for Chevy-style 8.2's and 12-bolts, and other odd GM axles. Most places that list there have email addresses and/or 800 numbers so you can check. Look for axle shafts or rear axle assemblies.

I think '68-'72 A-body axle housings will interchange, but, again, watch out for different styles. You don't want to get stuck with an O-type shaft or something like that.
