Axle and Driveshaft balancing

Anyone do this, can you do it yourself with a lathe and measuring tools? or does it involve a machine more like a tire balancing machine?

any websites with how to?

Thanks

Brendan

You can balance the driveshaft yourself if you have some patience and good sturdy jackstands -- sturdy enough you don't mind running the vehicle with the rear tires spinning on them while you're under the car. A lift is safer, of course. Note that this requires the utmost care! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

That said, go to http://www.tocmp.com/manuals/AMC/197...ml/browser.htm. Look at page 9-14 and 9-15. The first method uses an electronic wheel balancer (the type that mounts on the wheel). At the bottom right of page 9-14 starts the manual method (without a balancer). I really don't see why you can't use the described manual method in a lathe as long as the ends of the shaft are held true.
