Axle end play

I pulled the axles to replace the seals but before I did I check and my 1968 GM 10 bolt 3.08 posi has a lot of endplay on both sides, I haven't checked each part close but a quick glace showed no excessive looking wear. I'll check things closer tonight when I have more time.
How's the best way to tighten it up? Can you get thicker C-clips? Old school I thought was weld and build up the axle end, don't really want to do that but...
What's the specs on the axles? C clip groove width? C Clip thickness? Axle ends?

Thanks

Didn't dial it yet, I'll try and do that tonight but looks at least .060 (1/16) but probably more. Rear axles aren't something I've worked on alot.
Carrier shaft didn't show wear, axle ends it's hard to tell. Some factory numbers to check against would help.

Running the car down the back stretch at CMP the rear felt like it was dancing around a bit. Figured while I'm replacing seals I'd try and tighten it up a little.

dancing sounds like suspension, shocks/control arms, c clips are of a standard size, they would be showing the wear. make sure you are checking the play with the spider gear pin in place, it also acts as a spacer, between the axle ends.
Never have seen a spec on this, but that is me does not mean there is not one. generally speaking the pin keeps the axles pushed up against the c clips, so that they can not fall out, some play is to be expected and as long as the c clips are secure you are golden, you can put a c clip eliminator on but welding and rear end removal is required

Usually alot of extra movement of the axle is due to worn diff parts. The GM number on axle endplay is .008-.025" but I have seen them with more on brand new assemblys. With drum brakes its does not really matter much, but on discs you can get into piston pushback and that makes the pedal feel funny to the driver.

How is a 10 bolt vented? My 12 bolt has one in the casting, the 10 doesn't.

edit:
Never mind, found it. Broke off flush in the casting and filled with crud so it looked like nothing was there. It's no wonder I blew the axle seals.
