Axles for a 9inch ?

What type of axles should i be looking at and what $ to expect. I'm running a 28 spline Detroit locker with 3:55's will be running 275/60/15's and maybe 4:11's in future. Car weights approx. 3450lbs. Car gets fairly good hookup off the line. I'm thinking i should upgrade?. I priced out a pair of mossier axles bearings seals studs, $ 490.. ( parts only) Seems a bit much but that may be my ignorance.

Thanks again
bill

Manual or automatic ??

I have run stock axles ... on a 11.90 1/4 mile car for many, many passes ... after a while ... the splines started to twist a little. They had moved about 1/2 a spline when I upgraded to Summers Brothers axles.

Some drag race sanctioning bodies has requirements ... if you car runs XX it has to have good axles. 31 splines would be better.

Hey Deuce.
I run a worked up C6. Unsure if someday i'll try a trans break... but who knows. Really wow thats a fast time using stock axles. If i had of done some more thinking/asking i would have bought the 31spline locker and found the larger diff but i was impatient. I was just thinking if i ran a stronger after market axle I would cover my tracks. oh an what was that 11.90 car?

My 11.90 car ... was a 69 Nova with a BBC.
I wanted to go quicker and the stock axles would not hold up so I went to a set of Summers Brothers axles. This was many years ago when 11.90 was flying in a streetable ( somewhat ) car. All motor ... no NOS back then

This is before Strange, Currie and Moser were big players in the 9 inch world ( early 1970's ).

My car was a 4 speed car. I finally got it down to 10.65 ( @ the track ) by the Spring of 1972. The engine was BIG and on 9and 1/2 inch tires. It was becoming too fast and unsafe to match race on the back roads for $$$ ... the Nova became so unstreetable ... It could run competively at the track ( Pro Stock ) and I tired of the hassle and the up keep.
I got serious about a circle track car ... ( Late Model Sportsman ) .
