Ayuh, Is a Word,... Moderators Please...

Hello Moderators,...

I see a few of you have been editin' my posts,...
reason given is Ayuh, is not a word,...
I beg to differ, google it, 'n you can educate yerselfs...
This is but 1 explanation,...

I also believe this action, just as back in 2009/2010, is bein' pushed by 4 jaw chuck...
4 jaw tried to have me thrown off iboats forums for usin' Ayuh, which didn't happen...
Matter of fact, I'm now a Moderator at iboats,..
'n up to 48,000 posts,...

Shortly after that, he also tried the Same here, 'n Obviously it's happenin' again...
At that time, 302 Z28, aka; Vince pm'ed me about it,...
We had a nice conversation, 'n I explained my use of "Ayuh"....
Here is a repost of that conversation,....
Quote:
Your very welcome here, and I hope you stay and generate another 27,000 posts.

Thanks for explaining it to me.

Vince

Ayuh,... I guess we have a problem then Vince,...

If speaking in my native tongue is looked down upon,...
I'm sorry, but it's who I am...
I've been told that in normal everyday conversations, my voice is condesending,...
Again,.. Sorry but it's who I am...
I'm also a single digit typist, which leads to very short, but to the point answers...
Condescending,..?? Maybe, but it's in the eye of the reader, Not the poster...

I'm not a prolific poster here, more of a reader...
If you'd rather I Go Away,... So be it,..
This might be the Best engine forum on the web, but it's also Not the only 1...

I Am a major player at iboats.com motor, I/O forums, with over 27,000 posts...
Stop on by if you'd like,...
I try to give the Best info there is,...
That's 1 of the reasons I come here,...
But,...
If I'm not Welcome, so be it,.. I'll move on...
In my defense,...
This is the only other pm I've Ever gotten about my native language,...

I've also noticed you're pretty darn Handy with wrenchin' on Motors,.....
Glad to say Hi,....
No, I hail from North Carolina. I guess the ayuh... takes me back to the black and white movie days of Ma & Pa Kettle. Pa always used to start off with that. And anything that takes me out of this God-forsaken current timeline that I'm trapped in against my will makes me smile.
You're the Boss here Vince,... It's your decision...
I'll abide by whatever you consider the right thing to do,....
Other than changing the persona I've devoloped over the last 10 years,...
This transplanted crotchity ole fart from Downest coastal Maine has a World-wide following of Boaters...
If it's not Welcome here,...
I guess that's just the way it is,... Sorry...

I'll be awaiting your decision,+ will not post until then, or ever again,...
Your choice...

Bill Bond,... aka; Bondo....
Now,.....

If 4 jaw chuck is right, I guess I have no place here, 'n Vince was wrong to extend the Welcome he offered me...

If that's the case, Man up, 'n say so...

While I like this forum, 'n recommend it as a reference to many, but I can change that,...
If I'm in fact Not Welcome here, I'll find another forum, 'n stop recommendin' this forum....

I'm not here to start trouble, but I'm also not here for 4 jaw to continue his attacks on me....

I patiently await a rulin' by the Mod team...

Thank you for yer time...

Bill Bond, aka; Bondo....

Firstly, 4 jaw Chuck has nothing to do with this.

Since you decided to bring this to the main board, I will answer you here

Whether it is a word or not, I feel you are using it in a condescending way toward other members...In other words, if YOU feel a question is stupid, you start your post with Ayuh. Putting down other members or their posts is not tolerated on this forum. End of story

I am with Poncho on this issue also.
"Ayuh" in the way it has been used frequently is condescending to many , although most wont say so as they dont want a pissin match to ensue.
It also shows a lack of intellect.
Try starting off with " Well......" it might come of better to most folks.
It will continue to be edited.
Its nice to be important BUT...it's important to be nice, at least if you want friends anyhow.
And as stated 4 Jaw chuck has nothing to do with this. I am glad said issue has been adresssed as It has rubbed me the wrong way many times.
As far as the dictionary....It was being considered by websters to change Nuclear to Nucualer as so many people including Sarah Palin have mispronounced it so incorrectly so many times. Still doesnt make it gramatically correct.

Well, I see that no one else is touching this thread with a 10 foot pole...but, I have a comment. I don't see the problem with using the phrase "Ayuh"...I've read a few posts and I don't know, I saw some that may have been considered condescending to a degree but overall, it wasn't earth shattering. It looked as though the phrase was used in both cases, when he simply answered a post and when perhaps the feeling may have been greeted with a little question of "really, your asking this". I've seen posts that are a somewhat more blatantly condescending than what Bill posted, but if members are complaining you need to react...I'm from Canada and I've tried to break the stereotype of us Canadians using the phrase "Ay" at the end of a sentence...Like "I lost my Keys Ay"...but then I've heard many people from different parts of the US use the same phrase with in a little different way, "Ay, I lost my keys".

I guess my question would be aren't PM's supposed to be private? Ergo, Private Message, just wondering if anybody else feels the same or am I way out to lunch on my thoughts and thought I'd respond "Ay"....LOL. Plus it's Easter weekend and a little slow on the Forum, I'm not trying to stir up any problems but I'm interested on what other members think.

On another note, who's 4 Jaw Chuck?

Ray

I can confirm that 4 jaw hasn't said anything about it. I have seen you use it before and had similar concerns. Obviously several other members and mods have too, on two different forums. Is all that worth it to be able to use a single word? You're willing to leave about this? I mean, is your purpose in being here to talk about cars or to be able go say "ayuh".

You have a lot of good knowledge I have read a lot of your posts here and at iboats. I think it would be easy enough for a person who is a self admitted slow typist to just type one fewer word.

The word means YES !!!!

I guess I'll chime in and be the dissenting vote. I've 'used' the Downeast part of the world, Maine to be specific, for a good many years, 1974 to be exact for a place to, number one, visit for days and actually weeks of vacationing. Then, secondly, there are the 2-1/2 years that I worked there. Ayuh is not condescending language there any more then Eh is in Canada. Since we live just off one of the main N-S highways from Canada do get our share of that term. Pod'ner is often overused in the SW. We can get into many other local terms. But, whatever else, Ayuh - means YES

1. Ayuh***

A word used commonly in Maine as a positive affirmation. Pretty much, it means "yes".
Person 1: Are you going to harbor park today?
Person 2: Ayuh!

2. ayuh

Adverb
Yankee Slang meaning affirmative;yes
Cold, ain't it? Ayuh, it's wicked out thayah.

3. ayuh

1. A word used to end a statement; in a Maine accent.

2. A word used to confirm a statement; in a Maine accent.

Less go ta the faya, ayuh.
I'm a Mainuh, ayuh.

Person 1: Wanna go ta the faya?
Person 2:Ayuh

4. ayuh

A bastardized combination of "ah" and "yeah" commonly used by old cronies from Maine who have nothing better to do than whittle wood in front of a convenience store waiting to be written into a Stephen King novel.
Old Fogey 1: Your wife make you dinnah last night, Jessep?

Old Fogey 2: Ayuh.

(Some words changed to meet the nanny forum's criteria)

***Urban Dictionary: ayuh

AYUH,YA'LL AIN'T right. Will I be censored for typing YA'LL or AIN'T? I usually try to type in perfect English, but it AIN'T the way I talk.

A Short Cajun Dikshunary:

(Or a crash course in "Cajun-speak")

Cajun = English

"Ax"="Ask"

"Cher"="Dear" (Term of endearment)

"Couyon"="Crazy"

"Dat"="That"

"De"="The"

"Dem"="Them"

"Der"="There" or "Their"

"Dese"="These"

"Dey"="They"

"Fren"="Friend"

"Dis"="This"

"Mais"="Well"

"Non"="No"

"Tink"="Think"

"Wid"="With"

"Y'all"="You all" or "Everybody"

"Yeh" or "Yah"="Yes"

Nolan - unfortunately for probably good reason, you left my favorite one out, that descriptive word used to define LA. French speakers, but decorum says I shouldn't use it either or face another dope slap by a zealous mod.

Interesting that the LA. and Maine(also Northern NH, VT and way Upstate NY) colloquial words are very much the same and based on that archaic French ( shades of "Evangeline" and Nova Scotia)

What the hey

If people are Getting their feeling hurt by a word like ayuh, Then they really must flip if someone calls them dude. Ayuh is used here by some, it's all where you are from and what you are used to hearing. The Mods should be up on American slang before they call some one out, if they like the word or not, I do believe we have free speech as long as it's not foul. JMHO

To all you above posters.....Read the context of the posts involved, not just that word and hopefully will see the reason I brought this up.

I'm sorry Poncho but, I don't know which posts are involved. I looked at the first 3 pages of "bondo's" posts and maybe I missed it or them but I couldn't find anything glaring at me saying this is condescending. If Bill can post PM's, can you post the offensive post by Bill because as I said I don't know which posts are involved and from what I did read....there are many other members that have posted and are intentionally trying to be offensive.

Just my thoughts.

H - I have not a clue as to which of bondo's posts you are referring to. The quoted ones on this thread sure aren't condescending - and are really pretty mild.

Ayuh,... errr,... Well,... I don't see a hi-jack, but a conversation 'bout regional dialects,...
'n just google "Chaumont Bay", 'n you'll see where I live,...
I actually have a couple of houses, Right in the outlet of the Chaumont River, 'bout 100 yards from the state bridge over the river, where it meets the bay...
East shore, just opposite the Marina on the West shore,..

I've also had alota 2nd thoughts 'bout postin' this in the open forum 'bout site issues,...
This thread has proven to me that some, or maybe many fellas don't mind, or actually enjoy the work I've done over the last 13 years,...

'n of course, Factual Information...
Typical of the Downeast tradition,...
Not sayin' I don't get it wrong on occasion, but I'm also always ready to admit my mis-statements of Facts, when pointed out...

At this point in this thread, it appears the Mod Team ain't likin' My Style,...
I Won't be postin' in the forums above this sub-forum then,...
I will continue to follow this thread,...
I've built this persona, 'n ain't gonna change it,...
(I know I ain't a Novelist, 'n While I grew up with Steve's wife, Sam, I ain't gonna get written into a Steven King novel either )

I'll ask questions of the OP to get enough Info that myself, or the more knowledgeable will have the Info needed to answer the questions posed...

While My 2nd thoughts on goin' public are somewhat relieved, I'd hoped the Mod Team was better represented, As I'm guessin' there's more than 2 Mods here..

But at this point it's 2-0,... If that score don't change, I'll move on,...
I need to satisfy the Mod Team, even though I DO appreciate the support from the posters who have done so, Thanks fellas...
