B-17 crash landed outside Chicago

It's a shame to see something like this happen to one of these old aircraft. Maybe there are some parts that can be salvaged for another airplane.

Here's another with the video without the commercials plus some extra info: Vintage WWII bomber 'Liberty Belle' crashes near Chicago:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-13764898

I had seen that plane at a local air show - not a lot of B-17's left.

They were just here in my town a week or so ago. That is a bummer!

Yep. That makes only 13 planes left, that can fly at least. Shame

What a shame, but thank God they all got out. Looks way to similar to the Ricky Nelson incendent and his DC-3.

Well, whether that was the truth or not I don't know. But the events after the fire started are similar.

I've seen both 'accounts' about the Nelson fire - the cleaned up version as well as the other - and as TV documentaries.

At least no one died in the B-17 destruction

I like how the newscaster called it a "small" vintage plane. It's almost gut wrenching to see the pictures. There's nothing left.
