Baccalaureate Service?

What exactly is it? My school is pushing one of these on the Seniors, telling us it's really important we go. I asked a few friends what it is, they don't know. I searched google and couldn't get an answer, I figure someone on here knows/has gone to one. I only know it's some religious thing, so I'm not going, but I would like to know what I'm missing.

We had one when I graduated and I didn't go either. I have no idea what it entails. Its probably just some recognition type thing of your accomplishments having finished high school.

It is just a get-together to remember and give commencement a feeling of importance and solemnity. Gives people who don't get a chance to talk at the graduation to speak to the outgoing class. They probably get better attention of the grads since everyone is more likely sober, contrary to the graduation itself. There is also always a religious tone to the event so the ACLU has set its sights on it. It is a holdover from when this country was a kinder, gentler nation and it has no real relevance in this secular, crass time in history. Your attitude is probably quickly becoming the norm, "If there isn't some sort of instant gratification for me, why should I go?", so it will soon disappear.

In summary a verification of my motto, "Nostalgia just isn't what it used to be!"

Where I grew up the church had the service. The sermon and scripture readings were geared to the new path of your life, starting out in the world, and things like that. The B.S. actually stands for Bachelor of Science, a college/university degree.

345coupe thats the direction they are taking it, it's at a local church, given by reverend-----.

meanroy- very funny, I'll have to remember that.

It's funny, the Superintendent complained to the head of the music department about her decision to play Amazing Grace at graduation but they are campaigning the B.S. like an election.

The graduation is at the school, so they want no part of Amazing Grace. OOOHH! Let's not upset the ACLU! The service is off campus, so the ACLU can't touch it. You probably won't have an invocation or a prayer at the graduation ceremony either. We had both at my high school graduation, and the world didn't implode.

You've never been to my school, everything is so PC and by the book it's sad. Last week an event was canceled by the assistant Principal that had been approved by our Principal shortly before some medical problems. Some students organized a thing where you for every $1 you give you got a chance to be picked to throw 3 pies at anyone of the teachers who cared to be involved. All the money went to funding cancer research. After a few weeks and hundreds of dollars being collected the day the pie throwing was scheduled for the assistant Principal cancels it because he thought one of the teachers could get hurt, and he told the people who collected the money to give it back to students who wanted it back. --My school is pathetic.
