backfire!!!!
hey guys, I was wondering what the heck happened, i was driving in top gear at maybe around 3,000 RPM, WOT, motor was almost running outa juice, then I heard a loud pop and lost power... my jets to lean? or is it timing related???
edelbrock carb 600 CFM 350 CI stock HEI, I cant remember what its timed at, but she pulls realy hard in any other gear up to 5,500 RPM or so( i think them valves start floating), so i wouldnt think its timing. i just thought it was strange, 2nd time it has happened to me in 3 years. i put new mechanical advance springs, weights and bushings in as they didnt look to good, hasnt happened since i replaced them, but it never did happen very often, so i dont know if it even helped. any ideas why? i just find it strange that i could make the same run so many times before this happens. btw it wasnt hot when it happened. just looking for your opionions guys, thanks |

Did good power return after you lifted off the gas? If so I would think that either your fuel pump isn't keeping up or you might have a tank venting problem. Do you have an older car that the tank vents through the gas cap? The vent in these caps can plug with road dust or overspray if the car has been repainted.

fuel pump... ha! why didnt i think of that! I guess I empty the bowl, goes lean and backfires. the gas cap BTW is a brand new shiny Stant gas cap. the vehicle is a 1966 chevy truck
