backwards and sideways
Some of you may have read my posts regarding the problem I've run into while up grading my stock Monte Carlo 7.5" 10 bolt rear end to a posi. Well, Roy has informed me that there is a possibility that I may be able to change out the spyder gears to accept my original 26 spline axles. By the way Roy, the numbers on the differential are 0030 98400263. We have tossed this back and forth thru E-mail and felt like it would be a good idea to post this on the board for others to observe. First off, what I did wrong, at the swap meet where I bought the Detroit Locker unit, the seller had several units to choose from. It would have been wise of me to have been a little more(O.K., alot more) knowledgeable about what I was doing. I had never worked on rear ends much so I really had no idea the splines mattered. The seller probably had the one I needed, but I wouldn't have known it if it bit me. All I paid attention to was the 125.00 dollar price tag and my good buddy Bubba Blackwell(yea, the motorcycle daredevil) standing there saying, "aw'man you can't lose at that price". Well, we didn't find out that the 28 spline unit didn't work with my orginal axles until the shop I sent it to for installation called and said, "hey, did you know the splines don't mate". It cost 225.00 for the installation, so now what I gotta do is find out if I can swap axles without having to buy a custom made set for 600.00 or if there is anything I can do with out going to far backwards. I've been told by several people that there is no alternative, I would just have to put the original differential back in the car. I didn't want to believe that, it was just not what I consider to be a legitimate answer, not without doing some personal research at least. Alright Roy, get well soon and help me turn this sloppy situation around, I promise I'll do my research before buying from now on. Thanks for everything, Jooooooe
