Post Bad fuel filter?

I replaced my fuel filter this morning(Wix). I replaced it with a cheap-o 10,000 mile filter from Autozone. I took off the Wix and gas just comes pouring out of it, so I got to looking at it, shook it and it sounded like the insides was just loose in the case, so I blew in the tank side of the filter and gas comes out the side till it was empty and I had no restriction blowing air through it. This wasn't normal was it? Steve

does not sound normal to me, never seen one loose inside. but it is normal for alot of fuel to come out when you remove it. your system pressure should be around 45lbs.happy motoring steve.

No, I meant that when I took it off and turned it upside down and the other way...Anyways, Gas came freely out of both ends. That doesn't sound right... Steve

You should be able to blow air thru the filter with little or no restriction. Gas should come out of the filter when you take it off the car. It doesnt have a check valve. If you suspect its contaminated, bang that thing on a bench (inlet fitting) and see if anything comes out of the inlet side. Cut the filter open and see whats inside if you suspect something loose. Arnt you curious whats inside?

In my area it seems, changing my fuel filter has be come almost routine and predictably once a year, when it clogs up and the moto no go no mo. Yep, gas always comes out both ends, but you can't blow air through it. But a new filter should have very little, if any restriction.
And yes, cut that thing open. Inquiring minds want to know!
