OK This is just a rant, but maybe I'll feel better....I doubt it!

Just got home from a road trip across the country mostly on I-40. The ABSOLUTE worst stretch of road was Oklahoma. Not justa little bit, it was unbelievable how BAD the road is. As soon as we saw "Welcome to Oklahoma" the pavement changed. Parts are barely drivable with 4" deep potholes. It's mostly concrete but has been poorly patched with asphalt. They don't match! And the expansion joints are 3" wide and are not level. Close to driving off-road!
Luckily we were not in the Rod, but our new truck now has rattles thanks to Oklahoma!
SAD that we've let our highways get to this condition.
I'm sure you will say the roads are bad here or there, But Oklahoma is the worst from the East coast to the West coast IMO!
I could go on and on, but I gotta go rest my back.

PS...... Someone said that Texas wouldn't be attached to the U.S. if Oklahoma didn't suck so much!

Everywhere I've ever been I found bad roads and most of my rides needed the old grease gun alot to keep the front end together,Seems we need a giant dose of money to fix them and maybe all those knocked out of a job could get one in highway construction.Hope ypour back feels better soon.

I will say the BEST roads were Tennessee and Arkansas. (well parts of Arkansas, at least they are working on them)
The cleanest roadsides and rest stops were definately Tennessee!

First, let me say I am sorry about the Oklahoma roads. We were amazed how bad they are when we first moved here.

Part of the problem is that ODOT receives less than 1% of the tag fees. About 16% goes to towns and counties for their roads. And approximately 43% goes to the General Fund, part of which funds roads (anybody's guess is to how much). Almost 41% of our tag fees are directed specifically to non-highway uses. Insane.

Actually I'm sorry. I didn't mean to insinuate that the entire state of Oklahoma sucked. Just the roads.....and really they are the worst right around OK city, where they are horrible. They really don't need speed limit signs because you can't go faster than 45mph on the highway.

The worst roads I ever drove on were on the big island of Hawaii, particularly the road to the prison. I was just sight-seeing and wanted to go back there to see it, but got about 3 miles in at 5 mph (as fast as you could go without being thrown out of the car), turned around and went back to the main road that encircles the island. Unbelievable.

The rental car companies forbid you to go across Saddleback Road, the one that goes between the volcanos in the middle of the island. I guess they got tired of spending money to fix suspension systems on the rentals.

I have been thru there and don't remember it being that bad. I can say that Arkansas does have some beautiful highways! That perfectly cut green grass along the sides, absolutely beautiful.

worst roads I ever been on was in michigan. Especially west michigan, the whole road was nothing but patched pot holes, there wasn`t a foot of original ashphalt that hadn`t been patched.

I don't really know the conditions of Oklahoma's roads,, but I definitely can say that if a person wanted to start up a business of either front end wheel alignment, or a funeral home. I would HIGHLY consider Indiana, The roads are terrable to say the least,, and I don't think anyone under the age of 80 is allowed to live in Indiana,
They don't even have curbs around the parking lots,, cause the old folks might trip over them,,

Sooner Country has the WORST roads that I have ever driven on. Several years ago a buddy and I went to Okla City to pick up a horse for a friend of mine. Early that morning we somehow ended uip on the H.E.Bailey Turnpike and since we were broke and cheap we decided to jump off and travel the back roads and save the Toll Fee - - - - BIG MISTAKE, that poor old Bay pony was almost crippled by the time we got to Lawton from trying to stand up in that trailer over those wagon trails - - - LOL

The sad thing is there are bad roads everywhere. Most of them were constructed back in the thirties during the depression. Hmmmm, maybe Mr. O. could put a few thousand people back to work repairing them.....nah. Today's "young man" wouldn't lower himself to do road work. Besides the work that I saw being done along our highways last week was being done by hispanic, ALL hispanic and they were working their collective butts off in 100 degree weather most of the way.
I just typed a whole paragraph of how I feel about the billions that are pissed away on BS everyday instead of things that are actually important.....But I just got mad so I deleted it!
