balancer

Hi, I am having problems keeping the balancer on my sbc 400 it has eagle crank, 5.7 rods, sfi fluid damper, manual trans, and 6300 rev limiter.
I ran a stock balancer for a long time until it broke (crack the hub) replaced it w/sfi balancer and can't keep it on it shears crank keys and loosens the bolt. anyone else have this problem?/?

What's the part# of your crank? And since you're now using an aftermarket damper, you may as well give me it's number too.

Check the interference fit between the balancer and the crank. I took an Eagle crank to a machine shop and they informed me that the snouts on their cranks often come undersized. Sure enough, mine was undersized .0015. I had to make sure my intended balancer i.d. small enough that it would still work.
