ball joint castle nut too short

Hi Guys,
After three building years I am finally bolting everything together on my project. It is a mustang II type front end and I will be damned if the castle nuts on the lower ball joints are too short to properly install the cotter keys. The drilled hole for the cotter key is way too high on the ball joint stud to secure the castle. There is approimately 1/2 inch space between the drilled hole and the castle nut top.
What to do? Do they make taller castle nuts? Is it ok to use some sort of spacer? I can`t imagine trying to drill a new hole in the right location on the ball joint stud. Any help appreciated. thanx, Bob Myers, SD.

On my Fat Man M II kit a spacer was enclosed because of this.
