My next door nieghbor ame home with a real "Barn Find" He semi inherited it or swapped for an RV, or whatever. Anyway its a 1952 MG TD, been covered for 35 years with 35,000 miles on it. Not for me but a neat find non the less. It cranks over, fuel pump disconnected. My question, the gas tank was drained at some point however it does appear to have rust in it. So my question, we have to start here, do I pull tank, flush and coat with the Eastwood, Creme stuff? Replace it or just rinse it with some kind of solvent. I hate to get this running and have ongoing fuel issues. What would you do?

I think I have heard of radiator shops also flushing gas tanks. Maybe you could try a couple local calls to see if they have experience doing that.

Another possibility might be chrome shops, as they have to soak parts in various acids and such for plating. Maybe they would also know the common proctices to recondition the metal tank.

BTW... I thought the TD was a great looking car! They showed up sometimes in NHRA Modified Sports classes in the '60s.

Just got the tank for my Polara boiled out at the local radiator shop. Cost me about $50 and it had 48 years of gunk and varnish inside. Clean as a whistle now. Coated it Friday with Kreem and it's going back in on Monday.

X2 got a radiator shop here that does it all the time.

First TD hot rod I ever saw was at the drag strip in 1958. Had a SBC in it, so it was either a 265 or a 283. I've liked those cars ever since.

Tech....do you remember Norm Cowdrey's blown 327 Austin Healy 1000? I used to see him run at Lions, that thing would crank ...9.60's 140 + back in '64/'65!! It was silver then but he later painted it green.

Again on the radiator shop

Had to have the Ranchero tank boiled out and resealed.
Cost $125 and the tank looked new.

If a regular automotive shop cannot do it, call a industrial shop.
Mine was done at an Industrial radiator shop.

Mostly saw semi-truck radiators and intercoolers in the shop.
