Hey gwh. I am going to jump in here and mention something before Brian gets back. I am an old Ford guy and not sure how much this applies to your Chevy. When you are mocking up the front of many old cars, Fords for sure, it is good to fit the hood first. Make sure it fits around the cowl properly. both across the cowl left to right but also around the sides of the cowl vertically. Once the hood is correct you can fit the fenders and grill as mentioned in earlier posts. When you have and old car that has a hood, like a 40 Ford, that wraps a long way down the side of the cowl there is no way allign it last.

Panel Alignment Sequence with other Work

John L., yes the 41 Chevy coupe does have hood that wraps down the sides. Your tip is something that never would have occurred to me. Thanks much! Guy

1. At what stage of painting should panels be fitted?
The panels should be fitted during the body work process, so that you can make metal work adjustments to the fit before painting, if necessary. You may have to change the contour of one panel to fit the other or what ever is necessary for proper alignment.
