As an artist I am well aware that there is plenty of "borrowing of ideas" just like we do with car ideas........BUT
Most of know that the whole thing is kind of a rip on Big Daddy Ed Roths RAT FINK series, and the whole Mothers Worry Theme.
Now I m no real fan of Ed Roth.....in fact I did not even like him as a person, but he created a movement in a way......and I guess he deserves some respect for that.
It's better to work up my own ORIGINAL ideas....than to rip others. IMHO.

Well thats not really right. Ed Roth and others taught this type of drawing and style and marketed it. For people not to do their own styling/drawings in tribute or love of Roth is kinda ridiculous seeing as how popular he was.

I own custom rides and motorcycles, love the Kustom Kulture scene, and I don't feel like this was a blatant rip at all.

I have been drawing Rat Fink stuff since I was a kid....an I know the Roth and Von Dutch stuff is all the rage right now.
As a Pinstriper I am glad it has made a come back because it was that old style stuff that I practiced for years.
I have thought of doing just what you are doing myself a LOT of times and decided that I would concentrate on my own theme for a buck.
You do what you feel is right, and I am sure it'll be just fine.
I will mention this though......
While Disney is probably the most aggressive when it comes to copyright stuff...and they have an army that patrols the flea markets, and other venues looking for pirated stuff.......Ed Roth's Son is not far behind them. As far as I know he is pretty protective of the small empire Daddy Roth left to him.
Good luck with your stuff......it sounds like your heart is in the right place about the whole thing.

I am an artist that has posted art here and I have done "Rat Fink" style art since I was a little rodent. I think that every artist has his or her own style. I love inks and bold style art. Just do your art, whether or not others think its original. Stay true to yourself and you will be just fine.
