I wonder how many Batmobiles are out there? I know that quite a few years ago at a car show they had one and it was "flocked" black. Pretty tacky looking. Two year ago, this Ohio Batmobile popped up. I always thought that this was one of the best styles of any of the Batmobiles though. Although the very last one looks pretty mean.

I saw that flocked car when I was about 12.
Adam West had a bad habit of running the car into things.
Probably why they flocked it-----got tired of polishing/repairing.

Flocked Batmobile

I did a search on the Batmobile and found this
Quote:
Barris built three fiberglass copies of the original Batmobile for exhibition on the car show circuit (one of which was used for exhibition drag racing). Eventually, the three copies were covered with a black velvet "fuzz" paint, presumably to hide stress cracks in the fiberglass bodies. Later, all three were restored to their gloss black paint job. The 3 replicas are all based on a 1965–1966 Ford Galaxie. Barris has retained ownership of the original TV car, which is currently on display at Barris Customs in North Hollywood, California. The three Barris copies all reside in private collections.
The rest can be found on Wikipedia here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batmobile

I never knew that was why the flocked ones were on the show circuit. I wonder now how many Batmobiles are running around today. So evidently the one I seen, which was probably about the same time as you Bryan, was one of the originals. Man I wish there were digital cameras back then!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah Kevin, where did you dig those flocked pictures up from? (I didn't hit Wikipedia yet...) Those are pretty neat.

I saw it one time too. I always thought it was flocked so it looked like bat fur.
I also saw the bat cycle in a museum in Gatlingburg, Tenn. I think they even rode it in their midnight 4th of July parade once when I was there years ago.

Damn----'bout fell off my chair
Never did give that idea any thought at all.

Perhaps, we should all change the reason for the flocking
Bat Fur just sounds better and makes more sense

I wonder if the flocking had more to do with the lights and cameras rather than stress cracks in the fiberglass.

Here is a history of the original Batmobile. http://www.1966batmobile.com/
This explains some of the differences. http://www.1966batmobile.com/replica.htm One steel and three fiberglass replicas from Barris. One of the photo pages also shows quite a few different wheel styles over the years.
