battery reloaction in truck
 
i did a search and i couldnt find what i was looking for. i have a taylor relocation kit and was thinking about moving my large 1050ca battery from the nose of my 81 c10 truck to the front passenger side of the bed. and removing the tray from the front. i know it will give my engine bay a little cleaner. what other benefits would i see. any handling improvement, 0-60 gains, stopping improvements, etc. the bed has a extang soft tonneau cover. the gas tank is still on passenger side so i thought battery on passenger side would be best. any advice would be nice

IMHO... i don't see any benefit of the move.. other then cleaning up the engine bay.. racers move it OVER the rear axle for added wt for traction. so moving it to the front of the bed is not gonna help that much for that. but u already have the kit. just make sure u use rubber grommets through the bed and secure the cables to the frame... don't need no max spark with a short...

i thought it might be better there to offset the gas tank.

as i mentioned, i don't see a real benefit to it.. but... if thats what u want then i'm all for it... everyone has there own taste, and it sure will not hurt anything by moving it... go for it..

you would need to move it to the very rear to see any (very small) difference
however, if you can find more stuff to start moving back, it will add up :thumbup:

Move it - I really dislike seeing a drooling battery, and they all do, in an otherwise clean engine compartment. Something else - why not go to one of the "dry" cell batteries, get away from that monster and almost hide it from sight. I took my big Optima out and replaced it with an Odyssey - reduced the weight and footprint by 2/3rds and only lost a minimum amount of CCA (720 vs 680 for the new Odyssey).

As said above...you won't have any benefits other than the looks. One important thing though, make sure you run 2 BIG ground cables, one up to the nearest bellhousing bolt by the starter and the other to a clean bare metal location on the frame. Grounding problems can drive you nuts.

Moving the battery will slightly improve the front/rear weight distribution, and can help traction a little. Nothing that you'll be able to notice by the seat of your pants most likely, but doing several things like this can accumulatively add up to a real improvement.

I tend to agree w/the idea that less weight overall is more of a benefit than a slightly better weight distribution. Less is more in this case. Once the weight is pared down to a minimum, THEN you can worry more about the weight distribution.

i have been removing as much weight of the front end of my truck but i have run low on ideas and thought the battery would be next.i thought about a front roll pan but i am not sure about the looks of it.
