Battery terminal reversal

YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS ONE!!
I got a battery yesterday at Walmart for my Corola....the terminals are backwards from the original battery and the cables will not reach.
CAN I put the "+" on the neg and "-" on the positive?
They say a battery is just lead plates with acid to make the current....does it matter?

I've bought a bunch of batteries from WalMart, as well as Costco. Never had a problem. Several have been installed in daily drivers for 3-4 years. Of course, I also don't rely on worthless sales people to tell me which one I need.

I used to send my motorhome customers there for batteries, as they are allmost allways dead every year so they will usually warantee them if they dont charge. Another reason and mainly because if they are stuck somewhere on a sunday evening or what have you walmart is allways close buy making it easy for them to get up and running and on there way.
I prefer interstate for my own stuff and usually recommend those for anything we service.

Never Start, as we call them around here.. seemingly always work to just past the warranty tho.. they have gotten me out of a pinch before.. but having a 6 year old interstate revive and test perfect after being dead 2 years. theres a reason there better

An increasingly common occurrence as big box retailers try to reduce inventory and start to go by the battery that fits the battery box without regard to polarity where in fact both are a measure of fit.

If you wired this the way you ask about; the polarity would be backwards. In simpler times any resulting damage would be minimal even the stater will happily run backwards in such a situation, however, with the electronically controlled systems of today this would result in thousands of dollars in damage to these polarity sensitive systems.

The fix is either a new battery that fits the battery box and the cable locations, or new longer cables that can reach far enough to wire the car with the correct polarity from where the current battery mounts.

Yes the battery is nothing more than the device you describe, but the electrons move in only one direction, hence it has poliarity as do all the components of the electrical system except for incandescent light bulbs(Thomas Edison).

OMG - both the wife's Escape and my truck have been 'dead' for over two years with the Wally World batteries. OMG, OMG they're both miracles - Sainthood needs to be attached to both since they are both dead but still running
