BBC in a '02 Lightning.. Help! :)

Looking to build a rat for my buddy's '02 Ford Lightning.. I need some help with this one.

I've got 10 years of experience with building modular Ford SB's, and a variety of Nissan engines, but, I've never once put together a big block. So, I need a little guidance on parts/suggestions.

The goal is to make around 750-800chp on 93 octane, and maintain a reasonably streetable ride. We're going to put a JW rollerized TH400 behind it, but, not sure on the stall just yet.

We're starting off with a 2003 Vortec 502, with 80K miles, out of a pickup truck. It is 100% complete from oil pan to throttle body.

We were thinking a set of H-beam rods, forged pistons, and a rebuild kit.

From there, I don't have a clue.. I was reading up the AFR 315's, but, they are a little pricey. Basically, I need to know what we're going to need from the heads on up. We don't want to spend a ton of money on stuff that we don't need.. So, with that in mind, what do you guys suggest?

I need suggestions on:

Heads
Cam
Pushrod ratio/rocker length and brands
Intake manifold
Carb
Converter for TH400, (stall speed for whatever combo you suggest?)

I know this is a pretty vast topic, but, I need some input to steer me here.

Thanks!

Do you mean an 8.1L? I don't think there is much after market support for these engines. Something to do with the head bolt pattern or pushrod arrangement. Start with a 502 or 454 your horsepower goals are lofty you'll need big $$$ after market heads. What is your intention and budget? Streetable to me may be completely different to you or Joe Shmoe. Theres guys on here that can help you out though.

if its a 8.1L out of a truck it is a 496, not much aftermarket for it at all.

Yeah.. I see that now. I just assumed that the new 8.1 was compatible, but, it's not.

So, it looks like we're going to do a 496, out of a 454 block, to keep the cost down.. Unless we can find a reasonably priced 502 builder. What vehicles/years did the 502 come in?

I had one in a 2006 silverado 2500 4x4, it was a monster engine. Just don't expect to get more than 8mpg, ever.
