Try not to stray too far from the original intention of this post. Lets not turn this into a debate about what engines belong in what cars .

Go with the 4.10 gears. Plenty for getting you down the track.

good point siggy...ill look at as a vast improvment for a ford...j/k noone get upset i was just playing..but anyways its definetly diffrent....id defently drop a chevy rear end in it..or at least a nine inch with 4:11 gears in it..itll shred that 8.8....but good luck with thing..id like to see pics to see what it turned out like

Why????

Why would you put a big block chevy in to something you are going to drive on the street? A big block Ford or a stroked 351 would be just a bad. Go to racingjunk.com and look at andyspony, you'll see what I mean.

ORIGINAL adjective 1. Primary; first. 2. Fresh and novel. 3. Creative; inventive. -----n. 1. The primary form from which copies are made or varieties arise.

Sometimes I wonder why I bother. And yes, I know this thread is over 5 years old. Just another case of someone who can't even figure cubic inches talking about a complicated FOSDICK engine swap.

I don't know about that, Techinspector. this combination has become very popular in the Fastest Street Car/Grudge Racer arena, it is the most easily modified light chassis with the most scienced out engine combo. Many with a BBC with single or twin turbos, or a big Procharger. High 6/low 7 second cars at 200 mph 1/4 mile.

GM's big mistake is the mickey mouse rear suspension and 7.5" peewee rear axle that they put under the Camaro/Firebird starting in 1982. Completely killed its grass-roots racer appeal because 300hp will tear it up, and there is no inexpensive alternative to fix it beside a complete fabrication overhaul. That same puny rear axle rear killed all GM's rear drive cars from the late 70's and 1980's from a racer standpoint.

Fox body Mustang is conventional 4 link and a stock 8.8" rear will take a lot of abuse. a 9" rear swap is a piece of cake.

The 79-up Mustang has the same racer appeal today the 55-57 Chevy had back in the day...light, strong, easy to work on and modify, big engine bay that anything fits in, millions of them available as cores, and tons of aftermarket support with bolt-ons.
