BBC 496 Oil Pan question
We got a 496 out of a tube chassis car with a rectangular Hamburger pan.
We are putting it into a 78 Malibu with the stock front end. This engine has a Moroso blue billit oil pump and we are trying to figure out what pan to use for this beast. The 355 we run had a Moroso deep pan and we swapped it to an old 'Vette 6 qt. to clear the crossmember. The "problem" is the depth of the front part of the pan and hitting the member. This IS a drag car and with this motor (800+HP) we need ALL the oil controll we can get. Just looking for some advice from someone who's dropped a stroked BB into these GM's. Thanks Mike. |

Thanks, but those aren't stroker clearanced. The 405 is too tall up front I believe.
Thinking maybe a 20401 IF it will clear the stroke or a 20451 with the tray and poss. scraper. I haven't played much with this stroked BBC stuff,so some edumacation will be in order. Got to get this thing apart and SEE what all's lurking inside then a couple of phone call's. |

Might check a little closer...? Both the MOR-19550 & MOR-19540 are for 4.25 stroked engines... The 20401 a kick out type pan but only 6 qts so that kinda defeats the purpose...? What stroke and rods are you using...? Could always do a custom fab...?
