bbc cam

i was given a big block chevy cam of some sort, i know nothing about it, all the specs were lost when he moved and he gave it to me knowing nothing about it. so is there any way to find out the specs on this mysterious cam? maybe bring it to someone in my area that could get the specs on it?

Remove the timing cover, see if a manufacturers part number is on the front. If not, remove all lifters, keep them in order in relation the cam lobes they were on before, remove the cam, see if there are any numbers on the rear cam face. Nowadays, usually just googling the part number will direct you to sites with tech sheets. In the old days you would call the manufacturer.

A quality cam should have some numbers stamped on the end.
