BBC Engine Suffix

I have a Big Block Chevy that I'm having problems Identifying. The head casting says it's a '70 either 402 or 454. I can't access the block casting number but the suffix TLM according to the Chevy dealer is a '79 400. All I know for sure is that it is a Big Block.

BBC casting numbers

Would help if you post the block casting numbers from the drivers side of the bellhouseing flange.

It's a Chevy truck ("T") motor. Mine's a TLM, and it is a 72 402/automatic, with 8.5:1 and open chamber heads.

I don't have the book in front of me, so I don't know if TLM was exclusive to 72, but it probably was.

If it is a 1972 402CID BB the casting number will be one of these two. 3999290 402/240hp 2 bolt or 6272177 402/210hp.
