BBC Fan Clutch on a SBC ?

BBC Fan Clutch on a SBC ?

I recently purchased a good used Fan for my 350 Sbc powered 68 corvette.

the Fan is from a 1973 SBC Corvette.

I went to NAPA to pick up a New Fan CLutch, the 68 Spec Fan CLutch would not
Line up with the holes, so We tried a 1973 Part Number.

CLerk gave me a P/N 273377 which Fits the Fan perfectly.

Mounted the Fan assy on the water pump using a brass bushing to properly shim the
larger clutch to the smaller water pump nose.

all Fits fine and appears to be Balanced.

My question is:

CLutch appears to be a Big Block Chevy application, it is Larger than the original
spec Fan Clutch. appears that it would be Heavier than the smaller version.

would this cause any undue stress? Has anybody ran a BBC fan clutch on a SBC ?

I dont want this fan to fly apart and go into the radiator.

Thanks in advance for your comments..

IIRC, the correct water pump for your '68 'Vette is the larger 3/4" shaft, short-type pump.

There should be no real problem w/using the BBC spec fan clutch, IMO- as long as the "nose" that locates the fan clutch has the correct size spacer added like you've indicated you have done. Just see that it allows the fan to be 1/2 in, 1/2 out of the shroud.
