Wink Beef up H.P.

Hello Everyone, I recently purchased a 1985 Z28 Camaro...it is a 5.0 liter ,305ci ..155Hp rated engine ...it also has a 4 speed auto/od 700r4 transmissioin. I would like to replace the engine with a higher HP in the 250 range or higher(is that asking too much?) ....I would also like to install a standard transmission. Can anyone suggest a route I might take to achieve this goal. thanks in advance

Well, for the engine you can get the GM goodwrench 350 for about $1300 from a local GM dealer. That engine is rated at 239 hp and 350ft.lb of torque and that can be bumped up a bit with headers and an aftermarket aluminum intake. Which might get it up to about 260 hp. About the tranny, I dont really have any suggestions.

a world class t-5 can be had from a junkyard for pretty darn cheap. inspect of course first to see if there is anything wrong with it if you can. i doubt there would be but maybe thats why it was in the junkyard. you can get adapters and whatnot to hook it up to the sbc that you have but im not sure where that would place the shifter and you might have to lengthen/shorten your driveline as well. try going to a good local tranny shop and see what they have to say. later
