for the people trying to get into photoshop, here's a few tips:
first off, layers are yout friends. I haven't done much with cars yet, but i used to take pix of people and I could show what you would look like with died hair and/or colored contacts, a tan, whatever.. same deal really... it's been a while, but here goes. the exactl commands will be off a bit, but if you look in the menus enough you should find ones that are close. what you want to do is use the magic wand to select the whole car body, then copy and paste it to a new layer (or something similar) then fill the outline with a color you like. mess around with the transparency of the layer until it looks right on the car. that is a VERY basic paint job and can really only do basic work. results won't be nearly as good as viking is getting, but it's a strat. the rest comes with just fiddling with the settings and experimenting. also, always save in the photoshop format and save again in jpg. that way you can go back and change just one layer instead of having to change he whole pic. i don't have PS7 anymore but i may have to see if i can figure out this Corel Photo-paint we have opn this computer and see what i can throw together.. it isn't as good, but i think i can do something.... |

Alright I have a request that will be pretty easy for viking. A '77 Trans am with '98 camaro wheels (polished) prefferably, blue with red flames, why do you ask, because I ain't perfected my magic wand abilities yet let alone a flame job. That and I want to get bigger different rims and I found some '98 camaro wheels and not sure on how they might look.

Oooo, looked better than I thought it would, wasn't sure about those rims, but I am now. Thanks viking, I don't think I'm going to put a bird on it though, if I do it will be a majer custom bird. Havn't yet decided on the colors, but I was thinking blue with red flames, white red flames, gold with black flames or cucumber green with black flames, still not sure. Your imput would be apreciated if you like to toss it in. This is my effort to put the fun back into it for me, just a quick easy driver.

I think I am technically illiterate. I tried those most basic (I think) thing there is, a rims swap, from camaro to '90 corvette on that T/A and still couldn't do that. tried for about an hour, no dice. How the hell do you copy and paste! Yes pencil and paper is slow, but I eventually get it done, now if it gets balled up because I don't like that perticular idea is another thing.

HalloweenKing, a rim swap is not easy at all, I don't do it unless it is necessary. One thing that might help, I don't know if you know this or not:
When using any selection tool (i.e. magic want, lasso, polygonal lasso ect.) if you hold shift it will add to what you have already selected, if you hold alt it will subtract from what you have already selected. I think those are the right buttons. You will know if they are right cause a + or - will appear right by the cursor. Hope that helps a little Jake |

Thanks Jake, no I didn't know that. As far as I've gotten so far is being able to open sstuff, resize it without switching to the paint program and thats about it. Everytime I get something selected and I drag it to the place I want it to be all that gets gragged to that spot is an outline, but with this new info I may learn to do it
Good news, in light of the new information I have learned to swap rims, just need to be more choosy on the photos, now i just gotta learn to change colors and I think I can do my first online custom HK [ October 24, 2002: Message edited by: Halloweenking ]
|

you can also go to the edit menu and one of the options is transform. Under that menu are some things like distort and perspective that can help you make the wheels fit. Also, keep track of your layers. Every time you paste something it becomes a new layer until you exicute the merge command. Another hint, when something is selected, by swithcing the tool to the arrow, you can move it without going through the cut-paste routine, but beware it doesn't create a new layer. Lastly, don't be afraid to try something, you can always undo it or go back in the history (on the right hand side of the window). one more thing, polygonanal lasso is the best for selecting stuff by tracing a line. Zoom in and click often to fallow a line. Also the Magnetic lasso will automaitcally fallow a line, but it can be fooled and fallow the wrong line easily, so be careful...
One more thing, to change color, use the magic wand and the hint about adding to selections to select all of the color that you want to change. Then go to adjust under image menu. Levels, Curves, colorbalance, hue and saturation and others will help change the color of the car. Just play around with them and see what they do. have fun Jake [ October 24, 2002: Message edited by: drgnwgn289 ]
|
