Hey guys, so I'm young and looking to try and paint my first car.
It's going to be a 1979 Z28 Camaro. It's currently a stock white with the blue Z28 decal packaging it originally came with back in 78.
I may put fresh decals back on it after but probably not straight away.
Since this is my first time trying this, I'd like to not try and bite off more then I can chew, so I'm just going to be putting a fresh coat of white over white, which according to my limited research, is a fairly non ambitious first attempt.
Some of the body needs to be filled and worked on, the car sat outside for quite some time before I bought it, but considering its 40 year old original paint and wasn't treated too great by its owner (there's a fist shaped dent on the driver side A frame ) it's actually in very good shape. luckily I work where I can get Fiberglass resin and Bondo for dirt cheap. My plan is to pull the dents, grind down the cancer, fill it in where needed, then re sand and prime the car in my backyard. I can also get a paint gun for free (perks of working at a hardware store)
After that I want to use my garage, I plan on putting rolls of poly on my walls after moisting the floor, then re moisting once I plant my car.
Basically, I would like a few of you guys to reccomend me a good brand name ( not the most expensive, but just a reputable one) for the paint- frost white is what I would like to re paint the car. I want to know roughly how much I'll need, how many layers I should do, what I should know about going in as a beginner, common mistakes etc.
Oh and how much clear coat I should use.
Thanks guys.
