Post Bell Housing and standard 3 speed trans. 56 Ch

I have a 56 Chev, straight 6 and am in the process of installing a 327 v8 and have been told several answers to this question. The question is, will my original bell housing, w/the standard 3 speed trany bolt up to the 327 with out installing a different bell housing? I am aware that I will need to get new side mount motor mounts toward the front, but am concerned about the bell housing.I have also been told that I need to get a diff B H and purchase a support for the trans. I know that that conversion has been made probably 100`s of times but I`d like to find out the correct answer before I get any real surprises.
Thanks for any help you can send me

You have two easy ways to go here. You can use an eary (55 - 57) bell housing and find the front V8 original style motor mounts. Then the original transmission will work. If you go to a later bell housing from a motor with side mounts you will need to get a kit to put side mounts to your frame and change transmissions to a later style that had a rear crossmember mount. There are companies that have all these parts. If you go with the later bellhousing and trans be sure that the front bearing retainer will fit the size hole in the bell housing. Good luck it's really easy.
