Bent rear axle

Just when i thought i was close to finally dropping the Mustang off the hoist ,having solved all the annoying fluid leaks, i selected low gear with the car still in the air and heard a scraping noise coming from the rear. It is fitted with 4 wheel discs and looking at the right hand rear wheel turning over slowly i discovered i have a bent axle and the caliper was weaving trying to follow the disc as it moved side to side about 1/4 inch. I should have picked this up a long time ago but i didnt.
Question is , is it acceptable to straighten a heat treated axle either hot or cold or should it be tossed in the bin.
Any thoughts welcome.
Al.

Not sure about the Axle.
You also need to check the Housing to see if the Axle tube is bent which is usaully the case.

thanks . So i guess a measurement is required with a straight edge of some sort to determine if the housing is bent.

Thanks Cole. I was just reading a few blogs on All Fords website and it seems no one attempts to straighten an axle, just replace it. I hope some Ford axles here in Aus are the same as the 67 Mustang or its going to be a pain to find one the same.
