I thought you were covering a headliner board? If so, take it out of the vehicle to do the gluing. There is no way to do that correctly doing it in the car. These aerosols are a little more unpredictable than bulk spraying equipment, but with a little practice you can spray it quite accurately. If I have to spray in the vehicle, I keep a 6" wide by 15" long piece of chipboard with me to block off places I don't want overspray. These glues clean up easily with mineral spirits if you do goof up a little, so keep some of that handy as well.

Hi Dan,

Yes, I am gluing the headliner to a board (and will do that outside the vehicle) but read another thread where a guy used spray adhesive to glue a stick-on aluminum backed insulation to the interior. It was a Home Depot type product, not a "true" automotive sound insulation product. The insulation already had an adhesive but he used the spray-on stuff for a little insurance. Thanks for the tip...I think that will work.

You shouldn't get glue all over the place adding insulation to your roof, but it wouldn't hurt to take the seats out while you do this and cover the carpet with a dropcloth. Taking the seats out will make the job a lot easier.
