best cure for mangled lower control arm bolt holes
im workin on my buddys 57 chevy belair.
doing a full caltek suspension package.
on the drivers side lower control arm, one of the bolts on the stock control arm, almost pulled thru the frame.
i didnt notice, until i put the new tubular arm on, and theres a significant gap inbetween the frame and control arm, the bolt (new 7/16-fine, grade 8) would not pull it together. i tried tightening it but to only de-thread the bolt. same with a 7/16 corse thread bolt.
my oxy is gone so heat is out of the question for a sunday.
i could cut it out, or grinding it, but this will weaken the frame.
what would you do?????
I can't see it but obviously welding it is what SHOULD be done, repairing it properly. There are some gray areas that I don't want to even suggest.
If you posted some photos maybe it would be a lot clearer and something could be done but right now, broken frame, control arm mount broken out? Weld it properly.
the bolt didnt pull through all the way, i got off my behind, filled the tanks, heated it up,bent it back, and put an extra thick washer on it and welded it up.
shes golden now
Yep, sometimes you just have to bust out the big boys. :D
