I`ve got a daily driver 56 chevy 283ci. th350 with 3.36 gears in rear I believe.
What gear oil would be good for a rearend with a little end play or backlash after I let off gas at low speed? I have heard that synthetic, or Lucas additive may help. Thanks

if its posi you need the additive to stop chatter. not much in the way of whale oil anymore,not that I would use it.

The lucas stuff Part#10001 is pretty good stuff. It's kinda like the old power punch. It's not a "cure all" by any means. If you have a clunk I doubt any gear oil or mixture will make it go away.

You could drain the oil and look for signs of excessive wear. If it looks good I'd use a little of the oil stabilizer and a good standard 80/90 or 85/140.

I sold Amsoil for 15 years and their gear oil is great. I put it in hundreds of rear ends and never had any problems with it.
