best performance upgrades for '72 402

Can someone tell me what are the best performance upgrades for a 1972 402? I am starting with a "I suppose a stock' 402 and I have never built one of these before. Should I change the crank for more displacement or just work on the top-end? Any help and advice would be great. Thanks

Due to the lower cube displacement, the 396 and 402 have really been pushed to the side. Most advice you`ll get is "Get a 454" And that would be my advice as well as it`ll cost the same to build the 454 as it will the 402, only the 454 is over 50 cubes larger. I`d sell the 402 and use it towards a 454. Or, if you could just get a 454 block and slap your crank in it, you`ll have a 427 which are hard running big blocks as well.
