Where is the best place to measure water temp in a Gen 1 small block chevy?? The water is probably the hottest as it exits the block through the thermostat located in the intake manifold, so that should be the best place to measure water temp at right?
I have the stock sensor in the driver's side head, and have tried my mechanical gauge in both the passenger side head and in the intake manifold (where it is now).
Many folks assume the temp measured at the head will be hotter (makes sense), but in my engine there was very little difference - maybe five degrees hotter than the sensor in the intake.
I have tried both places also, in the intake and the side of the head. I also noticed only about a 5 degree differential, but in the head the gage showed a quicker temp rise.
I like to put it in the manifold near the thermostat so I can monitor how and when the stat is opening.
