Best steering for 32 Ford p/u
What do you guys think would be the best steering box for a 32 Ford p/u? I am thinking Vega, Corvair or even 56 f-100. The truck will be full fendered and have drag link. [not cross steer]. Thank you!

Corvair reversed steering boxes while a great set up for a 23 to 2400 pound vehicle with little percentage of that weight on the front end, are too light duty for a full fendered vehicle with all of the modern conveniences such as a big V8, power brakes and steering plus a/c, etc, etc. The original '32 weighed in at about 2300 pounds but it doesn't take long to add 3-400# and mostly to the front end - then add some fairly wide tires........ Vega would be much better tho is usually set up as cross steer. A Ford F-1, or possibly even a Unisteer rack and pinion setup might be a better choice if you don't want the cross steering. Dave W |

best steering for 32 Ford
Thanks Dave W. Would the vega work good with a drag link or should I rethink this whole thing. I would rather just have a draglink but if cross steer is better. I want to do it right the first time. Unisteer looks good but my frame is not boxed. Maybe I could box it at attachment points. What do you think? Thanks very much! Ron
