Trying to decide on a manual tranny for my v8 chevette =) it weighs around 1800 pounds stock so I'm guessin about 2200 Lbs with the SBC?....maybe less....gonna swap the rear end but need a halfway strong tranny to handle 400HP Plus possible a 100-150 shot of N20 in the future, I need somethin that isnt gonna be doin 5000 RPM at 100 Mph or so, redline will be around 6500 RPM so really prolly need a 5 speed or so, T-56's are quite expensive but I'll get one if I really have no other choice, or may be forced to go with an T-350/400, any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys.

T5 would be fine unless you are tubbing it and running DOT tires. A lot cheaper than T56. If I wanted more than a T5 I would look at a Tremec. I'm putting one in my project. For rear gear ratio RPM=RGRx336xMPH/TD where TD is tire diameter. Decide what you can live with. Figure with 3.73 and 26" tire with .63 OD you will turn 1800 at 60 MPH.
