In over thirty years in the autobody industry I have learned the difference between a "dent" and a "ding".......it depends on who is responsable for it.
Both of these examples have the exact same damage, a quarter sized indentation in a door.
"A,a,a,aaaa honey, ummm, I just accidently put a
ding in your new car"
"Some NO GOOD ROTTEN &$*#(@# PUT A
DENT IN MY CAR!"
