Well I think I would be happy having some fun with a stall and it fits my buget well. If I buy a stall converter, carb, and intake for this 305 the good part is they will bolt right onto a 350 and should work better than factory stuff on the 350. So now I just need some one to recomend me a stall converter for my car.

350 and 400 cid's are over ratted if you just follow the
below link. you will get what you were looking for in the first place.

you stated that you had a two barral carb in the camaro. you would put a edlbrock intake and a cam close to the 350 cam in the 305 you allready have.you will need a set of short stack headers with dual exhaust. if you put your so called 400 or 350 in you will still need to put dual exhaust in it. and you can find a feed back carb in a bone yard that is a Q-jet to tie into your computer system and still remain legal.

Thanks for the linnk and the faith in the 305's hehe. The 78 camaro has no computer that I know of. I'm considering riping all the smog stuff off just because most of it is eather broken (a few conectors) or pluged up (the carbon bucket). Nobody has a stall converter rated for about 1900-2200 rpm the would want to donate? I would have had plenty of money from selling some of my car audio stuff if the guy who wanted it hadn't sent me a fake cashiers check. Fortunitly I didn't send any thing to him so now I'm just back to having no extra cash hehe.

First of all you should get your 305 tuned right, cause if it can't spin the tires then something is wrong. I have an 86 Caprice with a 305 with 2.93 gears that will lay a bit of rubber and an 87 Cutlass with a 305. When it had 2.73's it would lay some rubber from a stop but now with upgraded exhaust and open element air cleaner along with 3.73 gears it will smoke the tires up to about 4500 rpm right before it shifts and screeches the tires into 2nd. My friends 86 Camaro Berlinetta completely factory stock with 3.23 gears will spin for quite a ways too.

So if your low on cash right now and just thinking you need 300hp because your car feels so slow, I bet with a bit of tuning and a gear swap you would probably decide to put off any engine work until you have more cash.

Thanks for the info on that stroker kit.

Gutless_Cutlass: what kind of things (preferable free) would u recomend doing to get it tuned up? A while back the muffler decided it wanted to come off so I had a shop Y the exhast after the cat (shop of course wont remove them). I noticed that helped a good deal. I also did notice I can lay a bit of rubber down if I take the fuel bowl vent tubing off (not sure how safe that is). The other thing that suprises most people is the fact that if you hold down the brake lightly and apply the gas it will not spin the tires if you keep giving it gas and more breaks it would just stall the car. Where would you sugest geting some new gears? Also how hard would the switch be?

You might want to try and find somebody who knows quadrajets to tune it. Adjusting it and making sure the accelerator pump is working and float is adjusted right would be a good start. Check for any vacuum leaks as well. Other than that, normal tune up items if it needs it, like air filter, plugs and wires, fuel filter.

Find a set of 3.73 gears from any 26 spline 7.5" rear end in teh junkyard. Shouldn't cost too much. I paid $100 Cnd. for a whole rearend at a local yard here. I paid around $170 Canadian to have the gears swapped in. Not something you wanna try if your an amateur. The gears should make it feel like a whole different car if you have 2.73's right now. If you can't burn rubber than you must have 2.73's.

Well I rebuild the carb (I'm farly sure its not a quadra jet) but it is a 2bbl carb. I replaced the spark plugs less than 100 miles ago. Its got an hei (the coil in the cap) on it. Filter was replaced less than 150 miles ago. Wires are stock for the car so i guess thats one thing I should do. I havn't checked the timing yet eather as i dont have a light or any cash to buy/rent one. The car will stumble some times if I mash the gas from a dead stop. No one has a 4bbl carb that would fit and that they arnt using do they?

I got my near stock 305 camaro going 135 miles an hour the other day and it wasn't even to the mat, then when I slowed down to about 120 I blew the passenger side wheel seal and it peed oil everywhere. My 305 is rated at 215hp, it is .20 overbore with a cam, timing at 12degrees advanced, it has 3.73 gears and a 700-r4.

Not to bad. I would say my car would easly do that speed. Total speed I would guess is between 150 and 160. I guess my problem is I got to get me some more low end torq. Could any one recomend what kind of car would have 3.73 gears? Or if there is a place to get new ones online for not to much that would be ok.
