Best way to insert a mechanical trans temp gauge
I wanna install a trans temp gauge on my th350. The only idea I have is to use a t-pipe on the trans cooler line. Also which is the line that feeds the fluid to the cooler.

i installed it on the pressure test port on the case , works wonderful and it fits perfect !

I am not familiar with your trans but if you can use a port thats already there then that is the easy way out. With my 347 Ford i use a Milodon sump and i fitted an oil temp sensor by drilling a hole in the sump and then making a fitting from aluminum and securing it to the sump with about 7 stainless metal threads and some high temp rtv. Works well. ( the sump was off the engine of course)

Cut a pipe coupler in half. Drill a hole in the pan and weld one half of the coupler to the pan. Put the sender in there.

Pressure test port on the side of the trans.

Pan, Test Port or Line IN/Return from Cooler.
The line OUT/Feed to Cooler will indicate a much higher temp, it comes straight out of the TC/TorqueConverter. |
Which line is the one that feeds the cooler?

Oil directly out of the converter. Temps there can be high depending on your trans / converter setup |
I took a peak at my trans today. I noticed three different pipe plugs on the housing. Which one is the pressure port? Or does it not matter.

here's a pan with the fitting already in it. Derale GM TH350 Transmission Cooling Pan - Speedway Motors, America's Oldest Speed Shop plus you get deep pan and cooling tubes. this is the good guy way to do it. have a nice day! |
