Better seat belt upgrade?

Hey guys,

I have a '67 Camaro that is done up but the interior is stock. The only complaint I have is that there are only lap belts in the car. I don't want to hack up the interior by adding a roll cage / bar, or seriously mess anything up, but would like to upgrade to at least a shoulder belt or even a 5 point. Any ideas??? Changing seats is something I have thought about, but I have never seen one with a built in restraint system.

Thanks
James

A junk yard is a great place for ideas I would troll around a few just looking in different cars and see if anything catches your eye. Even if you dont find something that will work it just might spark an idea. I wish I could be of more assistance but I am an anti seat belt guy. So I don't have much experience in this area.

Short of doing precisely what you don't want to do (install a roll cage), you have little options. The 67-68 Camaro's were not designed for shoulder belts and lack the sufficient anchoring points for an adequate installation. If you could perhaps find an early Nova in a wrecking yard (more likely than a 69 Camaro) and take a look at how the factory did it. You might even be able to salvage those parts and add them to your car. At any rate, I don't think it is going to be an easy operation without severely restricting access to the back seat for passengers for a non stock installation.

That's the issue I'm running into. Sometimes I have the kids with me, and thus need access to the back seat.... I cant seem to find an option that will work...

Thanks for the comments though guys...

How about the 3 point shoulder belts they sell at summit? Last summer I saw a 67 chevelle with them installed and I saw them install a similar set on musclecar (don't laugh it used to be a good show until lou santiago left) They welded some 3/16 plate above the window to the roof channel and bolted the belts in with grade 8 fasteners. Of course it needs to be done with the headliner out..

You could sell the 68 and buy a 69 ....how much you want for it?

Have to look into the 3 point option....

I've been offered 100k and turned it down... For me to sell this thing it would have to be a stupid offer, something close to what it would cost to build it!!
