Post big block chevy fit in 1954 truck

I am getting ready to rod a 1954 chevy truck. Can I fit a big block into this without major mods?
I have access to a nice 472 engine and want to know what it will take to fit it in. If it requires major mods, I will stick to a 350.

Anything will fit a 54 chevy truck(well maybe not a allision). As long as you go to an aftermarket frontend. The steering box is even a little close(we have moved a few over)on a 350 chevy with a stock box. Its a good deal and drives very well if you find a good cad do motor.

If it were me, I'd stick to the 350. There's more room between the frame rails for a small block. There's less weight and you can get still get big HP.

I replaced a 327 with a BB in my 67 C-10 Chevy truck. The 3" headers I used caused endless starter heat-soak problems becuase the space between the frame rails is pretty tight. Even replacing the headers with 21/2 in. Sandersons (ugh!) didn't help much. I finally had to wrap the starter with two aluminum blankets bound by 10 years of fiberglass tape and aluminum tape to avoid buring out starter motors from the exhaust heat. Good Luck whichever way you go...jsc
