I am getting ready to rod a 1954 chevy truck. Can I fit a big block into this without major mods?
I have access to a nice 472 engine and want to know what it will take to fit it in. If it requires major mods, I will stick to a 350.

Anything will fit a 54 chevy truck(well maybe not a allision).As long as you go to an aftermarket frontend.The steering box is even a little close(we have moved a few over)on a 350 chevy with a stock box. Its a good deal and drives very well if you find a good cad do motor.

If it were me, I'd stick to the 350. There's more room between the frame rails for a small block. There's less weight and you can get still get big HP.

I replaced a 327 with a BB in my 67 C-10 Chevy truck. The 3" headers I used caused endless starter heat-soak problems becuase the space between the frame rails is pretty tight. Even replacing the headers with 21/2 in. Sandersons (ugh!) didn't help much. I finally had to wrap the starter with two aluminum blankets bound by 10 years of fiberglass tape and aluminum tape to avoid buring out starter motors from the exhaust heat.
