big block g body headers

Im in the process of building a street strip 81 malibu with a mild 454. I know that hooker and hedman both make headers that will work, although i would like the primary tube to be 1 3/4" instead of 2". So my question is are there any headers that will work for my application with minimal mods? Thanks

But have you seen their prices?? They better just magically arrive installed on my car for that kind of change. I'm guessing the Op is looking for a more economical solution.

Yeah SD Luck i did look anywhere, maybe you should have looked and you would have seen that it said MILD big block as in i dont wanna spend a thousand dollars on a set of hedders. Considering that is about 1/3 of what i spent on the motor, and also if you read the entire forum you'll see it says with minimal modifacations. I dont know about you but if i have to spend a thousand dollars on a set of lemon hedders then i really shouldnt have to modify them should i ?

"A" body Chevelle headers can be made to fit,but you might have to do modifications to get them to fit.

When I bought my big block powered '86 Monte SS,it had what I believe were 1 7/8 inch Black Jack headers for an "A" body Chevelle, one tube was cut and a bend welded in to clear the clutch "Z" bar.Other than that they fit really good.Unfortunately,I'm not 100 % certain of the exact make and there were no markings on them.Last year I totally rebuilt my now 468 bb,and decided to go with a 2 inch Hooker Comp # 2455 header for a Chevelle. The right side lower control arm mount needed to be "clearanced",one of the motor mounts needed material removed, the clutch "Z" bar needed extensive work,(cut & rewelded),a couple of tubes needed to be dimpled, the brake proportioning valve needed to be moved. There are swap headers available, but they are very expensive.
