I'm in the garage installing my hydraulic lifters and rollers and I noticed two of my lifters are angled weird.
While the other lifters look like they're rolling parallel on the the camshaft lobes, two of them are rolling almost sideways at an angle.
I didn't drop or damage anything.
Is this a problem and will it correct itself??
The lifters are definitely not upside down.
These are hydraulic lifters with the link bar, I think it would be impossible to install these upside down.
I have it happen at least 3 times a year sir. Simple mistake. They will go in upside. I actually had a customer that called and his engine was down on power by about 120HP from where it should have been. When he took it apart he thought he had a couple of Morel lifters that had failed on the dyno. He sent me pictures of the "failed" lifters. I emailed him back and said yes the lifters failed but it wasnt' the lifters fault, it was who ever that assembled the engine and put the lifters in upside down as in the picture the lifters were in the engine upside down.
The axle of the roller must be exactly parallel to the center line of the camshaft. The roller cannot "skid" on the cam lobes.
The lifter link bar may be bent. Swap out some lifters to different cam lobes to see if the problem follows the swap. That may tell you which link bar is bad.
The vertical link bars can be installed upside down and will skew the roller lifters off center. The vertical link bars on the Comp Cams 854 -2 retro-fit roller lifters are supposed to have an arrow on them that points toward the intake manifold.
If this thing has run any time at all I would not run the camshaft. The lifter will have drug across the lob even with polishing I would be concerned about premature failure of lobe and new lifter.
