Don't intend to leave it the way it is now, just seeing what it would do with this set-up, my main question was about idle. I had to save for a while for the rockers but they are worth every penny, no more girdles!. The engine was on the test stand for initial start-up. Will a tunnel ram give me better idle? forget about the car for now, the motor probably won't be in there for long.

You know for about $300-350 you can recam this motor correctly.
Call my buddy Chase Knight at Crane Cams. Let him work his magic and get you set up with the right camshaft.

Call ATI to get a converter built just for your car and motor. And a transbrake for the glide.

A tunnel ram will do everything better than a 4500 manifold crutched with a 4150carb.

Look at that ... your wallet is already a lot lighter than 20 minutes ago LOL....

Tell me how it likes the extra timing at idle. and how the carb responds and what the exhaust does etc.
( stink) There is only so much you can do over the internet.

will do, I'll try the timing thing and let you know, you guys type alot faster than I do, as for the cam, I'm a "dapper dan man", I mean a "Herbert cam man". Changing the cam isn't that big of a pain because of the Horizontal bar lifters and the shaft rockers.

I have never used a Herbert cam but am of the opinion they are good. Many of the lobes are Crane design.A great cam design is a great cam design regulardless of the name that ends up on the box.

the more I look at this even with the very limited info, the more I think/know the cam is wrong for this motor/nitrous/car.
Not even considering the idle.

The new custom cam will idle better. That will be a side benefit.

Heads are ported Brodix Track1's, and yes, hair treatments of different names are pretty much the same too, I just like the Herbert billet rollers.

Thanks for the replies,
gotta go,

I'm not worried about the car right now as I will either change rear gears, converter etc. or sell the roller. This chassis has been in the 7's and I don't have near enough motor or money to give it the heart transplant that it needs. What this motor needs is my 4 speed and vertical inline shifter I used on my 66 chevelle in the 70's

Just for info I believe most all of the steel billet roller cam cores that most all the different cam companies use
to grind their roller cams on were sourced from Crane Cams. Not sure if the new Crane Cams company is still the major source, now....or if that end of the business got sold off.

I like Herbert cams because I liked Chet Herbert and I still like Doug Herbert and I used their cams back in the 70's, I may have been young in the 60's but the fastest cars at the time were running Herbert cams. Now that I'm starting to get back into racing I've called in to Herbert performance several times and Doug will answer the phone. He's one cool guy and never gets snippy over a stupid question. It's just a personal preference of mine.

Come on Herbert cam guys! where are you when I need you!
