big tube headers?

Got another question. Im trying to find some 2.25 inch headers for my 79 trans am with a big block chevy. Lemons headers seems to be the only place to buy a header this size for this application. I thought I'd ask hear to see if anyone has big tube headers in a 70's camaro-Ta and where they got them and how much. Lemons are 1300.00. I know I'll probably pay some money but if I can save a little then right on thanks guys. Also i have checker hooker, thorley, sanderson, tba, herbert.

Hedman Hedders, but they aren't cheap either. 2.25, 2.125, and 2.0, and 2.0 to 2.125 stepped.

reply guyhiltz

504ci, 10.25 comp, cnc ported pro comp heads stroker crank, 717 lift cam dont have the rest of the specks. He built the same combo but a 496 and I seen dyno charts at 689 horse. My heads are bigger and more cam and carb is also bigger so we're figuring around 700+. Needs big headers, I'll check hedman again but they said they didnt have any that big. thanks everyone

solid cam

are solid cams as tempermental as everyone says? This will be my first solid and from what ive heard you have to constantly adjust them all the time. My builder says no but figured I'd get some more opinions. Its on a street strip engine. I actually heard that evertime you rev them your adjusting them. Thanks

Depends on the build. Flat tappet or roller cam? If built right, sure shouldn't require adjustment THAT often. But, that's a lot of lift and depending on the cam profile (especially if it's a flat tappet) there's gonna be a lot of seat pressure, a lot of lift. Also can depend on how much deflection considering the head design, if you're using a stud girdle, the wall thickness of the pushrods, etc. The more you have flex and variation in the valve train the more adjustment may be needed.

One on hand, early 70's Chevy LT1s had solid lifters. OTOH, they weren't running that kind of lift, etc.

Here is a dyno session on 5 different header sizes on a 540bbc, if anything it's an interesting read. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/...ders/index.html
