biggest tires for a 68 firebird?

I am planning on ladderbars and a mini tub later on but for now does anyone know the biggest tires I can fit on my 68 firebird. I have been told 28x11.5-15's will fit with a 4.5 or 5 inch backspace...Has anyone run these on their firebird or camaro, or does anyone know the biggest tires I can run?

thanks
Brian

Hey, I had a 69 Camaro (I don't know if they are the same under the wheel well) and the biggest I could fit under there were 275 60's. This was an 8" wheel with no special backspacing. I had to roll the lip on the out fenders, then do a little minor banging on the insides because they rubbed (just a little, and banging too care of it). This was the very biggest that would fit because it touched both sides of the wheel well before the mods. I hope this helps.

Your "bird" has a better radius on the wheelwell than the Camaro. It more rounded. A buddy of mine had one and had quite large tires on it, no tubs. However, they did stick out a little.
You cant see the tires very well in this pic, but its all I have.

The 275 60's tucked a little on my Camaro. Maybe about an inch and a half or so.
