Post binkers dont blink....

I had to replace all the dash wiring with everything else due to fire problems. most things work fine now except the left from blinker doesnt work. the back and right side work like they should.... what I have done to temporarily solve the problem is splice into a wire that runs to the left brake light so it will blink. it works but that also means that every time I step on the brake pedal the front light comes on and its reterded as hell. so now that I have some time while its not on the road I want to fix it somehow. problem is I dont know any of the wire colors that I should be looking at to figure out what is wrong. I bought a shop manual but that has proven to be totally useless. any suggestions would be apreciated.
btw this is 1982 pontiac. I had to replace the full gage wiring with idiot light wiring, it was all I could get

Here is how the light plug on the steering column in a GM is wired. Looks like you need to trace the light blue or black w/ light blue stripe wire. I couldn't figure out how to space the info out in a readable table but study it and you can figure it out. There are three pieces of information for each wire; 1) plug pin letter (cast into the plug if you look close), 2)color of the wire, and 3) function of the wire.

GENERAL MOTORS COLUMN CONNECTOR

Connector ColorCode Function
Pin Letter
G Black To Horn Relay
H Lt. Blue or Black w/Lt. Blue Stripe Left Front Turn Signal
J Royal Blue Right Front Turn Signal
K Brown Emergency Flasher Feed
L Purple Turn Signal Flasher Feed
M Yellow or Black w/Yellow Stripe Left Rear Turn Signal
N Green Right Rear Turn Signal
P White or Black w/White Stripe Brake Light Feed
