Black metallic or pearl?

I haven't had a request for this in a while, but now I need to find some choices again.

A few years back I did a custom Harley, and after much searching, we shot some paint samples, and chose HOK Metajules for the project.

Since then, they stopped making the old formula... and I understand the new formula is not as good.

I saw a newer Corvette color recenly, which is nice too... but would like some recommendations.

My greatest concern is that it not look too "gray".

Ideas???

Hey Tuscon Jay...Have you ever used PPG's black base coat with a bit of Vibrance Liquid Crystal in the mid coat? I don't know if that's the effect your looking for but it may be a place to start.

Is vibrance a House of Kolor product?

No, it's a PPG line called Vibrance. I was looking through my PPG Vibrance chip book and comparing some of the chips to House of Kolor's Metajuls and I'm sure with a bit of looking and help from a local PPG jobber you could find what your looking for. Personally I do like PPG's specialty colors as well as House Of Kolors and have used both, but, if House of Kolor doesn't have what your looking for or you want something special PPG might be an option for you...The "Liquid Crystal" line is awesome, flexible (can custom make colors) and have used it many times with great results.

Hope this gives you an option.

I've got PPG catalogues somewhere. I'll check it out.

The Metajules are like nothing else. They are a ceramic, or glass flake. The reason they don't make them now, as they were, is because...

The original plant in Japan was shut down for environmental polution.

Then they then built a plant in Louisiana... But Hurricane Katrina leveled it.

The "Vibrance Collection" may not be in a regular PPG catelogue, My chips are all in a seperate binder and fairly expensive...just for the binder. The "Liquid Crystal" may be very similar to the House of Kolor. It comes in powdered form and mixed with DBC 500 (mid coat clear reduced with regular base coat reducer) in the Deltron line.

Worth a look...I like it, great effect in the sun.

I'll check it out. Thanks!

There call Zerrellics (spelling??) and the plant was closed due to the sunami, I think it is open now.
Corvette used them in the red pearl and the jet stream blue, nothing like it!
I painted my old vette that color ($1200+++ gallon of base in Debeers) and the new one is also that color.
In garage, looks like any blue but goes from blue to light blue to even a green shade in sun. jobber cost is about $200 a quart.

BASF and PPG both would have the different shades and both do a better job then the other company and cheaper mentioned with the custom color line.
Matrix also has a custom line that is suppose to be real good and can match any House of Color color.

I think playing with the different shades of the zerrelics in a black could be a real killer color.
