Post blazer ring gear

i have an 89 full size blazer w/342 gears the rear is making noise and i think the ring and pinion are gone , i know that 89-91 blazers had rear end problems. my question is did the 89 come with both 8.2 and 8.5 in. ring gears or just one size??????? the only affordable replacement i found was from summit, but there the only one that asked me what size gear it was . i really dont want to take it apart before i order because i use the truck everyday and its not to the point that its not driveable YET. other symptoms are a fair amount of play when putting in gear and when i lift off the gas i can hear it howl slightly i just changed the rear u-joint it was wiped. the front is ok. i ran the truck on stands and you can hear the noise in the housing i originally thought the spider gears were gone because the wheels would hop a little backing during turns but that cleared up when i changed the u-joint so now its just noisy and a little sloppy. any words of advice would be helpfull because even with all the time ive spent on it im not sure. i still have the origonal window sticker that lists the optional 3.42 gear ratio. and its a 10 bolt thanks in advance it is a 4x4 <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

generaly a 10 bolt is an 8- 1/2.
try going to www.eriedrivetrain.com and i think you can contact from there.if not call, 1-814-833-8866. might be a good deal, might not. i work for this place, good people, worth a shot.
when you let off the gass, the ring is riging on the coast side (concave)
.if you do wind up putting a new ring & pinion in there, i would use new brgs. bad idea to put a new gear set on whooped brgs. asking for trouble.

i checked my book today, it lists an 8.2 for the front axle, doesn't say anything about the back being 8.2, just 8.5.
i you go with a different ratio you will have to change the front or yor trugk will go about 6 feet and bind up.
wasn't sure if you knew that
